Modifications
Various dates
1.0.0

Initial launch of site. Appears to run without much problem. Many files to add to make site a multimedia experience and actually useful to somebody.

SSH attacker took down the server. No /var/www/html/lhcoc files lost. RedHat 9 was reinstalled/configured for server applications. Password Generator implemented for secure passwords.

SSH floods at night, but no entries. Appears to have 'closed the gate'. Closed some additional ports on router.

Getting comments from distant members; very postive.

Began using a program called PDF995 to create PDF files instead of ASCII/HTML text files for Bulletins. Will also use for Bible Studies and and various text documents. It is entirely possible to archive via PDF format everything that can be printed. This allows even those who do not have the programs that the files were created on to open them using a free utility [Adobe Acrobat Reader].

Various Dates
1.1.0

First major editing of link hierarchy (for efficiency/less redundancy).

Also, removed the link to calendars.htm, deleted /images/bar4.gif and /images/bar4b.gif in favor of a different and interactive calendar format.

1.1.1
General Archival and Text updates.

1.1.2

Problems with Dial-Up speed and the time it takes to load the website caused me to decrease the number/size (Kb) of images/scripts/etc.

Previous file Size: [Total(Kb)/Images(Kb)/Time(sec)]
--107,652/58,175/21.65 [First Analysis]
--96,871/90,240/19.51 [First Edit]
--90,240/40,762/18.18 [Second Edit]

Great Improvement, nearly a 4 second decrease in download time for 56k dial-up users. Would like to decrease to 15 seconds or less. Consider a different Rollover script for the side menu bar. Consider a 'Links' or 'Online Resources' [have to think about that one] page instead of the right-side menu. Or at least remove some of the clutter on the right menu [also would improve download time].

May 14, 2005
1.2.0

Compliance with Disabilities accessibility
--Added Titles to Links
--Removed any slang/shortcuts in text
--Additional Work is necessary

Fixed some broken 'Calendar' links

Added additional Archives

Issue to Fix: "When text is 'zoomed in/out', some characters do not change'. Will need to apply relative font sizes.

Issue to Fix: Getting a large number of error messages in Apache log file for file /images/bar4.gif and /images/bar4b.gif. Images used to be linked to calendars.htm, but were deleted in favor of a different calendar. So, there should be no reference in the code to this image. Check the pre-download image script instead.

Inserted New Archives

1.2.2

Received many new bulletins in my email address. Thanks Mary :P

Decided to redirect 'Calendars'. Instead of going to http://my.calendars.net/lhcoc directly, the site will now go to http://calendars.lhcoc.com (a DNS entry at zoneedit.com) and be redirected to the former site listed. With cloaking enabled, no one will realize they have left the lhcoc.com site (unless they watch the status bar close enough).

Added 05.08.2005 Bulletin.pdf, Archived tapes #1219-#1222

Error Message mention in May 14, 2005 log has been resolved [/images/bar4.gif and /images/bar4b.gif]

May 20, 2005
1.2.3

Updated the Homepage with VBS, Mid-Week Announcements, and Graduates.

Began work on the internet.htm file (Internet link in Ministries page)

Added to the titles of May 15, 2005 to Archived Sermons

Began to Sort by Series, Sort by Gospel Meeting, and Sort by Speaker. Sort by Topic later; that will take a lot of time. I think that Rosemary has the folder sorted in this way. That'll definetely help!

May 22, 2005
1.2.4

Updated Frontpage, Updated Calendar, Listed New Bulletin, Added Archives

Saved a Backup File of lhcoc 1.2.4 for safety

Download Powerpoint songs. Looking to get CCLI license as well. Just have to get projector placed properly and men trained on computer software. Songs need to be organized and numbered to our books.

Bulletin Online for 05.29.2005. AM Worship sermon online. Song and Scripture from the PM Worship was inaudible. Scratched it.

May 30-June 4, 2005
1.3.2

Steve sent sermon .ppt files from many weeks previous.

Added 05.29.2005 AM Worship .pdf file

Updated Mapquest Destination address to 773 Collins Rd.

June 5, 2005
1.3.3

Bulletin, Frontpage, Sermons

Explanation and javascript popup window for 'Contact' emails

Additional file format of Prayer List (.rtf, .txt, .doc)

Experimenting with CSS image rollovers instead of Javascript rollovers. This will dramatically decrease the number of HTTP requests to the server, therefore decreasing the high latency that many of the dial-up users are experiencing.

June 6-11, 2005
1.6.1

Added Notes for Sermon 06.05.2005 AM

Moved the CSS files to a seperate folder for organization.

Later I would like to take the embedded style sheet for Friday night sings and seperate it from the HTML document.

Implemented an early version of the CSS rollover.

# This site is not using HTTP compression, otherwise called content encoding using gzip. Consider compressing your textual content (XHTML, JavaScript, etc.) with mod_gzip or similar products.

* CSS alternate stylesheets may be referenced in the HTML but are not actually downloaded until they are needed and are therefore not included in the total page size.

Analysis and Recommendations
TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 2 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 16 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
TOTAL_IMAGES - Caution. You have a moderate amount of images on this page (9 ). Consider using fewer images on the site or try reusing the same image in multiple pages to take advantage of caching.
TOTAL_CSS - Congratulations, the total number of external CSS files on this page is 2 . Because external CSS files must be in the HEAD of your HTML document, they must load first before any BODY content displays. Although they are cached, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page.
TOTAL_SIZE - Caution. The total size of this page is 41014 bytes, which will load in over 8 seconds on a 56Kbps modem - or 8.57 seconds. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Be sure to provide feedback for pages over 30K by layering your design to display useful content within the first two seconds. Consider optimizing your site with Speed Up Your Site or contacting us about our optimization services.
TOTAL_SCRIPT - Caution. The total number of external script files on this page is 3 , consider reducing this to one or two. Combine, refine, and optimize your external script files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed scripts for high-traffic pages) on your pages.
HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 13543 bytes, which less than 20K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your page to display content in well under 8 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.
IMAGES_SIZE - Caution. The total size of all your images is 15474 bytes, which exceeds 15K. Consider optimizing and creatively cropping your images, and combining them where appropriate. Even better, replace graphic text and form controls with styled text to eliminate unnecessary HTTP requests. Ideally each image should be less than 1160 bytes, to easily fit into one TCP-IP packet.
SCRIPT_SIZE - Warning! The total size of external your scripts is 8410 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents.
CSS_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of your external CSS is 3587 bytes, which is less than 4080 bytes. This will fit into three higher-speed TCP-IP packets.
MULTIM_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.

Congregation of 100 to 115 seeking full-time minister. Though currently without elders, we are a fully functioning local church with individual and collective works being managed on an on-going basis. Interested individuals will be competent in regular pulpit preaching as well as actively pursuing new converts by way of home Bible studies.

We are a semi-rural congregation with room for growth. Our plan is to accept résumé's through November 30th with notification immediately thereafter.

Emailed Ivan and Brian requesting any file that want online. May consolidate some links/articles on the frontpage to streamline the design and feel of the Frontpage. No new articles/information to add to the Frontpage though (exc. Lynn Cook, Picnic, etc...). Changes to the calendar need done... Gerald, if your reading, i'm going to be doing Jan, Mar, May, & Dec (if they are not done already). I have year 2004 calendars in my file to work from. Please check for errors as the time goes by.

18 - Uploaded Bulletin, No Audio for either morning or evening. So I'll summarize each with a Frontpage article of Lynn Cook's message. May ask Steve Fuchs to write something short instead.
Updated titles to messages from previous week. And corrected broken links.

Article on Lynn Cook:

Lynn Cook speaks on Disaster Relief

"It was great to have Lynn Cook and his wife with us. Lynn works with the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort (CCDRE) out of Nashville, TN. Lynn shared with us the Biblical basis of the work and the present needs. They are presently scrambling to send as many trucks as needed to the Gulf coast region. The front page of the bulletin gives some idea as to volunteer work and the precentage of donated money that goes straight to the aiding of victims.

"Charlie Cramlet and I were priveleged to go to Mandeville, LA, to help with disaster relief. While we were there, a truck from Churches of Christ Disaster Relief out of Nashville, TN, came in bringing boxes of food that would feed a family of 5 for four days and much needed cleaning supplies, etc. Charlie and I were part of a chain saw crew that cleared away fallen trees out of yards and driveways.

"While there, we helped clear 8 properties. We went to members of the church first and then offered help to nearby neighbors. Four ladies from the Lubeck church of Christ in Washington, WV and fourteen from the Spring Road church of Christ in Westerville, OH made up our group. The ladies helped orgainze incoming supplies and the men worked on chainsaw crews and in distribution of supplies. It was great to be able to work with my son Stephen from the Spring Road congregation.

"The Spring Road congregation has sent 40 more workers and plans to continue to send workers for at least 3 more weeks. Also the Hickory Hills congregation is working out of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and will be sending workers each week for the next three to four weeks. Pray for the victims. Pray for the workers. Much more is needed."

A Different Approach to Christmas
by Rusty Miller
Article borrowed from justchristians.com
In every town in America this month, the story is the same. Stores, covered with lights and decorations, are brimming with shoppers. People are talking about "peace on Earth." The yards of most denominational churches are filled with nativity scenes, some featuring live "actors" and animals.

Traditionally, when some members of the Lord's church have been confronted with the world's idea of December 25th as the birthday of Christ, they have responded by jumping on people with both feet, more dictating than explaining that "Christ wasn't born on December 25th, and if He had been, we still are not told to celebrate His birth!" This has rarely, if ever, done anything but anger people.

Before my message is misconstrued, I am not advocating the celebration of Christmas as a religious holiday commemorating Jesus' birth. What I am advocating is perhaps a different approach.

What does being "just Christians" mean?

It means trying to be like the first century church in work, worship and teaching. They were just Christians - why can't we be the same?
It means being an independent and autonomous church, not part of any denominational structure - just like the Christians in the New Testament.
It means worshiping like the people in the New Testament did.
It means believing and practicing what the New Testament church believed and practiced.
It means an end to "hyphenated Christianity" where some human-centered name or creedal position is attached to the term Christian. We hear this all the time: "I'm this kind of Christian" or "I'm a --------- Christian." Where do we read about that kind of thinking in the New Testament? Why can't we be just Christians like in the New Testament?

In short, it means being what the first believers were: just Christians.

This site is dedicated to that ideal. We just want to study the scriptures and see New Testament Christianity freshly, in purity and simplicity. If that thought intrigues you then click away. You'll find the quest for "just Christians" to be tremendously challenging and rewarding. We pray we'll be a help to you along the way.

It's been mentioned that we need to meet to do some upgrading to site.
